The Maker by Daniel Lanois, from his album Acadie (1989).

The best of Daniel Lanois albums (though Shine is unfairly forgotten) and the best song on it. He gets all his acclaim for his production credits (deservedly when they included Achtung Baby) but his solo work is phenomenal.
